Have you ever thought of your forgotten dreams? The dreams you had when you were a child but then you decided to say no to them. The dreams you had when you grew up and became adults but you never got a chance to really follow them. The dreams you have now and you delay them because you think later you would have more time to pursue them.

If your answer to my question is ‘no’, I hope this article can change your mind and help you open your eyes to your forgotten dreams. Believe me. When you open up to your dreams, your dreams open up to you as well and become attainable.

So, are you ready to learn and apply the process of dream achieving that I am going to share with you?

Great! Yes is the right answer.

The first thing to know is the definition of a true dream. When I ask people what a true dream is many of them have no idea. Some think of dreams as fantasies, some think of them as unattainable goals, and some as unrealistic wishes. If we don’t know what a true dream means, we cannot define one and achieve it. According to John C. Maxwell, “a true dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will, and emotions, empowering you to do everything you can to achieve it.” I like this definition because it is complete. Keep this definition in your mind as we go through the process of dream achieving below.

The dream achieving process consists of three steps. I also call it the three D’s of dream achieving: Dare to dream, Define your dream, and Do something about your dream.

Dare to dream
In the first step, dare to dream, you need to decide to dream again and get ready for a rewarding yet challenging adventure. As long as you have no desire for achieving your dream, you cannot motivate yourself to achieve it. Once you decide to make your dreams come true, nothing can stop you. You will be equipped with the right tools at the right time for the right reason.

Define your dream
In the second step, you need to define your dream. What is that you really want? Why do you want it? What results do you like to see? How does it feel when you achieve it? Set aside some time to describe your want, desire, and dream in as detailed as possible. Once you write down the details of what you want to achieve, you need to be able to express the essence of your dream in one short sentence. This sentence should be inspiring, energizing, and motivating. You should be able to make a mental picture of your dream in mind when you read your dream statement. This step is crucial because it can provide you the fuel of enthusiasm for taking the journey and moving forward toward achieving your dream.

Do something about your dream
In the third step, you need to take action and do something about your dream. The dreams become fantasies if we do not do anything about them. You cannot fulfill your dream if you do not act toward fulfilling it. If you don’t act, you are just a daydreamer and you cannot be called a Dream Achiever. To be productive with your actions, first plan, then perform based on the plan, and finally monitor your progress against the plan. Your small daily acts sum up to your success in achieving your dreams.

Now that we are approaching 2011, I encourage you to use this 3-step process for defining your true dreams no matter how big or small they are, setting some motivating goals for 2011, and then acting toward those goals to become one step closer to fulfilling your dreams. As Edward Kennedy said, “The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die.” So, let’s dream again and keep our dreams alive.

Happy Dreaming!
