Several years ago I thought I did not have much to share with others. I thought I had an ordinary life like most people. I thought there was nothing special about me that could make others interested in learning from me. I thought I was a drop in the ocean that was too small to have an impact! Sounds familiar?
Despite my shallow thinking at that time, I was a good observer. I observed my behavior in response to certain events in my life. I observed my strengths and struggles. I observed the choices I made to overcome the challenges I faced. Over time though I noticed that there was a path that I was walking on, a path that was unique to me, a path that had its own ups and downs, its own turning points. I noticed that when I zoomed in I could see the details of each event, each struggle, each challenge, each failure, and each success. I also noticed that when I zoomed out, I could connect some dots together to make a bigger picture that showed me some trends about the way I was living and working.
These trends that are unique to each one of us but relevant to many have shaped our lives. We can reflect on them, learn from them, talk about them, and create our signature stories around them. So to me your signature story is the story that has shaped your personal and professional life up to this point. And that is why I believe every one of us has a signature story to share with the world. It is your unique story based on the choices you have made and the circumstances of your life.
