Becoming a role modelHow often do you start doing what you want to see others doing? How often do you exemplify the way you want people in your family or at your work place to behave and work? How often do you show others how they can fulfill their dreams and vision by setting an example?

Unfortunately, many of us are poor role models for what we want to see in our personal and professional lives. We expect others to take the first step for us. But, if we do not take the first step, we cannot expect others to initiate something for us.

Becoming a role model and example for others is the key to influencing them. If you want to be an effective leader in your personal and professional lives, you need to do what you say and you should be the first one doing it. That is how others follow your example. People look up to you for guidance.

In this post, I’d like to share with you a formula for becoming a role model and exemplary leader of others. This formula is called the PIC formula in which P stands for passion, I stands for integrity, and C stands for clarity. According to the PIC formula, passion, integrity, and clarity result in exemplary leadership and becoming a role model.

Passion + Integrity + Clarity = Role Model

When you are passionate about what you do, your positive-energy generator is turned on, so you never run out of energy for creating new ideas, connecting to others, and causing good things to happen. Passion gives you the courage and confidence to break boundaries, take action, and expand your comfort zone. However, passion alone is not sufficient to become a role model.

When you have passion and integrity, you are not only energized to create ideas and confident about causing things to happen, but you also take responsibility for exemplifying the way and doing what you say you would do. Integrity results in trust and respect so that people look up to you as their example.

Although passion and integrity are very powerful, they cannot make you a true role model if you don’t have clarity.

  • First, you need to be clear about your vision, your destination, your role as the leader, and other people’s roles in your organization.
  • Second, you need to combine clarity with passion and integrity.
  • Third, you take the first step, set an example, show the way, and become a role model.

When you apply the PIC formula in your day-to-day activities, you will notice positive changes in the way you lead, and so will others. You become more involved in the activities that you thought were the responsibility of others. Others start to trust you, look to you as their example, and follow what you do as their standard.
